Roadtrip 2011 – Danube Delta

Our next stage of the trip finds us in Tulcea, taking a boat to go to the village of Mila 23, in the Danube Delta.

We went there with our lovely host Capt’n Grig. First fishy thing about him was that he “thought” our reservation was for June, not July. But, in all his kindness, he found 2 rooms for us. When we asked for the third one (already paid by us) or a discount, he started freaking out. After some yelling on his part (that’s the time the girls told me he drank 3 beers on the boattrip and threw the empty cans in the river), he found a third “room”, but due to the medieval comfort, we politely said “HELL NO!”. Eventually, due to a strong moldy smell, we all slept in just one room.

Next morning we took the trip back, but this time with a sober eco-friendly driver. Although we didn’t have time to go into the natural reservation, we did see a couple of pelicans.

To Capt’n Grig, we would like to dedicate the following image (found on the Mila 23 peer – weird coincidence.. or maybe not):

Other keywords for this leg of the trip: dogs, mosquitoes, snake on water, Capt’n Grig’s boat almost crashing into a tree, frogs, birds, pond lilies.
