US Road Trip 2018 Days 10&11 – Utah Rocks!

Day 10 Another driving day – 6 hours along the scenic roads of Arizona and Utah. Left the Grand Canyon, with its vegetation, decent temperatures and occasional shower and returned to the deserts, with thorny bushes, red rocks and a high of 105 degrees F according to our car. Didn’t visit much, just stayed in the relative comfort of the car’s AC. Took the Monument Valley road. We drove past Continue…

US Road Trip 2018 Day 9 – Back to the Grand Canyon

Obviously started the day with another trail run. The area is just too good to pass. After a few kilometers of warmup across town, went up the cliffs above Kanab via the Squaw Trail, then on some singletrack and dirt roads (more like sand roads) called the Connector Trail, down the valley via the Cliffs Trail (very steep, involved a little rock scrambling), then a little bit of John’s Canyon Continue…

US Road Trip 2018 Day 7&8 – Driving into Utah

There’s the boy scout monument on top of the hill. I like to climb up that side and get down the other.” Entered Utah, one of my favorite US states. Drove a couple scenic Continue…

US Road Trip 2018 Days 5&6 – Buffalo and Geysers

Day 5 Our second full day in Yellowstone National Park. Left Canyon Village and went for Lower Geyser Basin. We saw… yes, you guessed it, geysers, hot springs, mudpots, fumaroles. There were so many of them we were getting bored. Skipped the Midway Geyser Basin altogether, especially as we saw the queue of cars waiting for a place to park. Stopped at Old Faithful. There’s an entire village built around Continue…

US Road Trip 2018 Day 4 – Bears and Paintpots

First morning in Yellowstone. After waiting for the sun to rise and warm us up (like some lizards), we jumped in the car and went exploring. Went northbound and visited: Beryl Spring – one of the geothermal features producing the fog I kept seeing the previous night. Our first sight and it was pretty cool. One of the hottest springs in the park, with the water close to boiling point. Continue…
