Visiting Caves and Volcanoes in Szekely Land

We like Szekely Land because of its many traits as compared to Bucharest: green, remote, underdeveloped, deserted. We went by car to explore some of its sights, trying to cram as much as possible in just 2 days. The natural sights around Racos We started with the volcano. Very interesting landscape. I guess this place is a lot better to visit with a guide or a geologist – they would Continue…

Injury Log Part II – Knee Surgery

Looks like an average hotel room, right? Then you start noticing the weird shape of the bed or the unfamiliar sockets on the wall. You’re not allowed to eat 12 hours before surgery or drink 8 hours before. It seems, when under anesthesia, you won’t be able to control yourself, so it’s best there’s nothing you can lose control of. I was given regional anesthesia. That’s the one with a Continue…

Injury Log Part I – Conservative Treatment

It was a beautiful winter day. And by beautiful I mean it was snowing – something you most appreciate when you’re a skier hungry for some white powder. We were in Poiana Brasov, going down Lamba Valley. The entry point for the valley is just below the Capra Neagra cable car station. Just keep right as you’re descending. The snow was pretty good, we had a lot of trees to ski Continue…

Night skiing at Balea

It was February. It was a depressing winter. With the snow cover they had, the nearby Bucegi Mountains were more suitable to pretty much anything beside skiing. So we packed our stuff and went to the snow Mecca of Romania. Balea is THE place for off piste snow sports around here. Coming from Bucharest, you’d have a 4 hour drive to km 104 of the Transfagarasan. From there the road Continue…

Cyclotourism through the Land of Fagaras

We wanted a nice relaxing weekend visiting some beautiful areas, so we planned a couple of bike routes around the town of Fagaras. Since the trails were pretty light, I chose my CX bike with semi-slick tires. For Andreea we rented a bike from Brasov Trail Adventures. Day 1 Started the day next to the citadel (didn’t have time to visit it, we’ll keep it on the todo list). From Continue…
