Did you just arrive in Bangkok? Are you looking for the biggest tourist attraction in the city? Well, look no further than the Grand Palace, with its Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew).
Visited by only a zillion tourists each day, you’ll find it hard to take a photo (any photo) without another tourist in it (that’s why I focused on close-ups). You’ll even find it hard to walk against the flow (of tourists following their guides). You will also have to cover your knees and shoulders (if they are not covered already, pants/scarfs can be borrowed).
If you are not bothered by these, then you’ll surely enjoy the opulent architecture, with a lot of shiny and gold-ish stuff. I’m sorry I didn’t read all the info I had in my guide, but the crowds and the heat easily defeated my desire for knowledge.
South of the Grand Palace, you’ll find the Temple of the Reclining Bhudda (Wat Pho). The statue is so big, getting it in one photo is quite the challenge.
From a pier nearby, you can get a ferry to the other side of Chao Phraya and see Wat Arun. You can climb close to the top and enjoy great views of the riverside.
Bangkok has a lot (a loooooot) more temples, you just need the time and the interest to visit them.
