Roadtrip 2011 – In the mountains

Halfway in the roadtrip, we had a pitstop at Tecuci (with a ferry crossing in Galati and admiring the gipsy architecture in Ivesti). We had a short detour to the village of Nicoresti, but I forgot the camera, so no pictures from there 🙂

We then went to Brasov, with an attempt at seeing the Prejmer fortified church, unfortunately closed on Mondays 🙁

We found Brasov lovely, organised, full of foreigners and thief-free. We took a walking tour of the city and admired its sights and stories:

The night found us in the village of Zarnesti, at the border of Piatra Craiului National Park. Next morning, after escaping Irina, our spookishly nice and extremely talkative host, we saw the Zarnesti Gorges and the traditional mountain village of Magura:

In the evening we checked out Bran castle, but chose to sleep in the small, unknown village of Podu Dambotivei (with 8 euro/person/night accomodations):

We drove through the Dambovicioara Gorges, admired the small settlements there, checked out Dambovicioara Cave (with the 12 year old, 6 years-of-experience guide [child labour laws? what? where?]) and, eventually, came back to ugly dusty hot Bucharest.

Keywords for this final part: Michael checking out the technique of a climbing girl (yeah, right..), friendly Surinami-Dutch guy, finding a place to sleep only after 9pm, awesome landscapes, vicious birds (“stork eat cow”, sparrow stealing bread), Anca being mistaken for a pimp (“Do you have any free girls?”).
