Bike Camping in Henry Coe Park – Part 2

Set my alarm at 6am. Woke up at around 4 from the morning chill. Managed to doze off. Woke again at 5. It was breaking day and some crazy ducks or whatever they were started quacking. Managed to doze off again. The alarm rang at 6, so I hit the snooze button. Finally, I woke up and prepared breakfast.

Ate, packed and went off. I barely had any water left (after starting yesterday afternoon with 4L), so I took a detour to a nearby camp.

Having my water supply back to 4L, I went towards Camp Headquarters. I decided to stick to dirt roads, so I could bike more. I didn’t. The roads were too steep, both for going up and going down. In the same time, the heat was picking up and I was going through my water very fast.

At 1pm, I had just half a liter left, but 200 more meters of vertical climb on a dull dusty road. Then a jeep appeared. I thought: “Finish this climb like a boss or choose the chicken run?” I chose the chicken run, waved to the jeep to pick me up, got to the HQ in a few minutes and grabbed a cold Coke. While there, I talked with one of the rangers about the park. I’ve only seen deer, rabbits and turkeys during those 2 days, but there are also mountain lions (about 10-15) and hogs.
