How I climbed 1400 meters on a bike and survived

I was feeling a little nervous before starting this. I’ve never done a climb that could even come close to the altitude difference from Sinaia (800m) to Cabana Miorita (2000m).

Which sounds like a challenge. So I packed 2 2L bottles of water, energy bars, dried fruits, bananas, an apple, sesame bars, glucose bars, raisins covered in chocolate, isotonic drink, a sandwich, peanuts, sun lotion, light jacket, rain jacket, spare clothes, bike tools and my not so negligible 1.5kg camera+lens and biked away.

MihaiM and MihaiED, my two mates in this adventure, were making good progress in the ascent. Meanwhile, I felt the need for frequent stops, so I could capture the landscapes on camera. They were truly breathtaking!

The ascent ended with a muscle-crunching mind-boggling 2km long, 300m high climb up a ski slope, that took us more than one hour.

Finally, after a little under 5 hours, we’ve reached the 2000m landmark and checked in the biggest room available at Cabana Miorita (and this luxury was priced at only 6 Eur per person).
