How I descended 1500m on a bike and survived

(Part 1 here) Woke up at 7 am. The guys were sleeping. Decided I didn’t want to disturb them so I snoozed for one hour. At 8, I gently got off my bed (although I couldn’t prevent it from squeaking). I noticed I forgot my non-biking pants at home, so I stayed in my pajamas. I took some biscuits and my camera and went out for a walk.

After breakfast, packing and ping-pong, we were off to conquer the Bucegi plateau. We went up and down steep slopes, stopped at Cabana Piatra Arsa (for some papanasi), reached Cabana Babele (2200m) and started our final ascent towards Omu Peak (2507m).

Unfortunately, due to some mean looking clouds (that engulfed us) and the risk of rain, we decided to cut the trip short and return.

And by return I mean going downhill 1500m in altitude. The final part of the trip was just a blur of flying rocks, skidding tires, dodging branches, with short showers of mud. And this was after I got over the fear of staying on a bike while going down a ski slope at >20 kmph, having the front suspension pushed to its limits and the rear wheel sliding all over the place.

Got down the mountain, ate a sesame bar, biked through Sinaia, went home in time to catch Spain win the Euro. Quite a day.
