.. but last Saturday I failed and it sucked.
The plan was simple. Take the 6:25 train to Azuga, take the cable car up the ski slope and then bike my way happily down the mountain 30 km to Comarnic.
I also found other guys wanting to come. Even the weather was on my side, sunny and pleasant.
But no. Noooo! The cable car was having technical problems. Came to Azuga 4 days this year and it had problems in half of them. Great. Everybody else went up the slope by foot, pushing the bikes (the slope was 2 km long with more than 20% incline). I didn’t feel up to it. After 100 m I was exhausted – seriously out of shape. So I took a chance and waited for the cable car to be fixed. So optimistic of me! Needless to say, 2 hours later I was going towards Comarnic, but not on the mountain road, as originally planned. I was going down National Road 1, a road I will forever remember as the Road of Fail.
Anyway, since on tarmac travelling 30 km would be a little over one hour (I ended up going even more, to Campina, in total 45 km), I had some time to kill. First, I stopped at the Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni. The guide started talking about the history of the Cantacuzino family and about the fine brancovenesc architectural style and details that can easily be observed… and then I fell asleep.
Afterwards, in Sinaia, I came upon the town’s days. Cute, but nothing special, passing on.
The rest of the trip was uninteresting. The mountains left way for hills. I occasionally stopped so I could start feeling my but again. Found the cheapest gas I’ve seen in years (well.. the billboard wasn’t updated in years). A bag of flees got attracted to my bag of biscuits.
Got home at 5. Meanwhile, everybody else was still on the mountain tops, enjoying the views and struggling with the terrain. I won’t let my next bike trip catch me off guard again. I already started a get-into-shape hardcore program. About that in a later post.
