Taiwan Day 2 – The feast

Took a cab to go to another county (Yilan) – which is very cheap here, around 30 euros for 70 km. Notice the array of electronical devices in front of the driver: gsp, radar detector, video camera + a device I don’t recognise + another gps dock.

In Yilan, we first went to the National Center for Traditional Arts. Inside it, we saw a museum (very very good artwork, with connections to Taiwanese culture and lifestyle – unfortunately, photo not allowed), a lot of shops with a variety of things (like this charcoal sculpture), people making and selling traditional food, a temple and even a play.

Lunch: rice dumpling – just 1 euro – very interesting the way they prepare the food in front of you.

After a boat trip, we arrived at a water park. We paddled in a dragon boat (me and Thrierry showing everybody else how to paddle like a man), raced on the misty battlefield, played water basketball and slided on the waterbed jumping (the titles are from the park’s booklet… my sister could have made better titles than these)

In the evening we stayed at Apple’s relatives. They prepared a huge meal for us. Besides the rice (succesfully eaten using the chopsticks), we had squid, seafood, chicken and some weird leafes. The desert was rice jelly and pear.

The room we stayed in was very interesting, very simple and with the floor above ground level (again, thank god for AC).
