Up the Hills Part 2 – The Last Haiduc

Sunday, I returned from the prahovanean countryside, but using a different route. While the first day had only around 10% offroad, most of it downhill and in pretty good condition, the second day was about 40% offroad, including a muddy 4 km long 250 meter climb. Through the woods!

You might wonder what’s up with the woods, right? Well, in the village of Sangeru I heard the story of the last haiduc – a dude that, 20 years ago, was stealing, plundering and wreaking havoc in Sangeru and the surrounding villages. He used to shelter in the woods – vast and uncharted, a perfect hiding place. People claim he had several hideouts, where he stashed stuff and escaped the cops. He was eventually caught and served 4 years in jail. Afterwards he became a law abiding citizen.

… until last week! I don’t know what exactly happened, rumors include stuff like theft, tying somebody and ninja swords. The police are questioning his relatives and searching for him, using even a chopper. Every day, for the past week. The problem is he’s now hiding in the woods he knows best.
