MTB Holiday – Prelude

One week of mountain biking, remote places and simple pleasures. The final track ended at about 350 km in 7 days, with 300 in northern Romania and another 50 over the hills of Prahova.

Let’s start with the preparations. Alex came up with the plan and the track. We would be spending some type on altitudes over 1500 meters, so I had to pack some cold weather clothes – not many though.

The sleeping system included a summer sleeping bag and a self-inflating mattress, along with a silk liner and a down jacket – in case of very cold weather. Alex brought the tent, but I also took a bivy sack, planning to extend the trip for 1-2 days, by myself.

Our first couple of days were in the Calimani Mountains, so we had to be prepared with food for that period. Had some snacks for throughout the day, along with easy to cook food for the evenings and some Joylent powder for breakfast or when I didn’t feel like starting a fire. The types of food I usually eat while camping:
– instant noodle soup
– a mix of instant mashed potatoes, textured soy protein and powdered milk (with a high calorie punch given the low weight and a ridiculously low price when compared to freeze dried food)
– cans of beans (which I try to eat first, since they’re the heaviest)

Health related items – remembered the toothbrush after taking the photo.

Backpack (40L) and bike stuff. I think the overall weight was about 12 kg, which is pretty decent.
