Night skiing at Balea

It was February. It was a depressing winter. With the snow cover they had, the nearby Bucegi Mountains were more suitable to pretty much anything beside skiing. So we packed our stuff and went to the snow Mecca of Romania. Balea is THE place for off piste snow sports around here. Coming from Bucharest, you’d have a 4 hour drive to km 104 of the Transfagarasan. From there the road Continue…

Visiting Hong Kong Island

The top tourist attraction on Hong Kong Island is definitely Victoria peak. We’re not talking here about the actual peak (which is a little higher up) – normal people don’t care about these technicalities. If the road stops there and it says “Victoria Peak” and there’s a 5 story shopping mall with a viewing platform on top, then it must be the peak. There are 3 ways to get there. Tram Continue…

The island of Thassos

And by easy I mean it’s just a short 10 hour drive from Bucharest – and that if you’re lucky with the queue at the two border crossings. You’ll also be taking a ferry, but there’s one every 30 minutes or so. So why come here? I guess most people Continue…

Cyclotourism through the Land of Fagaras

We wanted a nice relaxing weekend visiting some beautiful areas, so we planned a couple of bike routes around the town of Fagaras. Since the trails were pretty light, I chose my CX bike with semi-slick tires. For Andreea we rented a bike from Brasov Trail Adventures. Day 1 Started the day next to the citadel (didn’t have time to visit it, we’ll keep it on the todo list). From Continue…

Celebrating the New Year with a 50K run around Hong Kong

While preparing for the Hong Kong trip, I also looked around for some races. HK didn’t disappoint and I stumbled upon Ultra Trail Tai Mo Shan. It’s a trail running competition featuring three distances. The longest one is 162 km long (and 9000 meters of elevation gain). If you’d care for something shorter, there’s the medium distance – 115 km (5300 m+). Finally, the short race (and my choice) is just 50 km Continue…
