Nepal Part 7- Yak Kharka

Day 13 – September 30 Finally left Tilicho Base Camp. Can’t say we were very fond of that place. Don’t know what we didn’t like more: the cold, the lack of electricity/ hot water, the room or the centipedes. Returned to Shree Kharka, then went on a shortcut through Upper Khangsar (4150 m). Hoped to have eaten lunch there, yet found out the village was deserted. Survived on granola bars Continue…

Nepal Part 6 – Tilicho

Day 11 – September 28 Another sunny day (with great views). Which, given the elevation of 4000 m, meant being extremely careful not to get more sunburns. Started the day with a climb to Shree Kharka (3950 m). Ate potato soup in their “resturent”. Crossed landslide areas. Made sure to cross this section in the morning, as it appears the risk of falling rocks is smaller compared to the afternoon. Continue…

Nepal Part 5 – Toblerone and Cinema

Day 9 – September 26 Acclimatization day in Manang. Woke up late (7 am). Lazy breakfast. Started reading “Into Thin Air” (the true story of how a lot of people died climbing Everest during a snow storm). Walked through the village. Pretty laid back place, lots of lodges and restaurants. A couple of bakeries as well, with Western products (cinnamon rolls!). Several shops where you can buy everything a trekker Continue…

Nepal Part 4 – Yak Burger

Day 7 – September 24 Left Chame at 7:30, on a pretty cloudy weather. Got only a few glimpses of snowy peaks. Had egg noodle soup in Bhratang (2850 m), to provide us energy for the climb to Dhukur Pokhari (3250 m). The landscape opened up in front of us, as we escaped the narrow cloudy canyon and arrived in a wide sunny valley. It felt like taking a breath Continue…

Nepal Part 3 – First Bucket Shower

Day 5 – September 22 This was a long one. As usual, woke up at 6am. Had breakfast, then packed. When paying the bill for dinner, breakfast and accommodations, we noticed they wanted to charge us for the electricity as well ($1, outrageous!), but then they dropped the claim fast. At 7:45 we started walking. Passed the villages of Jagat (1300 m), Chamche (1370 m) and finally Tal (1700 m), Continue…
