Nepal Part 8 – Thorung High Camp

Day 14 – October 1

Left at 7am. Finally saw Nepali wildlife: a few packs of blue sheep.

Crossed another landslide area. As we were cautiously walking, one fist size rock darted just a few meters in front of us, at lightning speed. Adrenaline pumping, we sprinted for the rest of the section, as fast as you can sprint at 4400 m elevation.

Started snowing like Christmas. Got Andreea in the holiday mood. Probably my first time humming carols in October.

Arrived at Thorung Phedi (or Thorung Base Camp – 4450 m). Ate and listened to some relaxing music, from a Nepali guy with a Reggae hairdo, both waiter and DJ. So weird listening to music after such a long period without. Those rhythmic sounds felt so unnatural, so amazing!

Hiked to Thorung High Camp (4850 m). The weather got a little sunny, so I hung some clothes I washed to dry. A few hours later, after it started snowing again, I went to get them. They were frozen solid and even collected a little snow. Needless to say, the night we spend there was the coldest I can remember.

For dinner ordered a pizza with everything. It’s interesting to see how they understand western food. I guess they saw a photo of a pizza somewhere and put together something that resembles it. Or maybe somebody described how a pizza looks like. I really don’t know. There’s no way to explain a pizza with cabbage, carrots and tons of spices, among others.

Paid $1 for charging my tablet, so I could check out next day’s route and also write this post.
