Discovering Macao

After a week of cloudy weather, it finally got sunny in Hong Kong. It was our last day there. We left in the morning for Macao. A little bit of history: part of Portugal from the 16th century, Macao was given back to China in 1999. They’re under a similar level of autonomy as HK: “one country, two systems” or, as I see it, “You are free to do as Continue…

Taiwan’s Night Markets

Night markets. I would put them (the food oriented ones) as the top attraction in Taiwan (at least if you’re an European). In Kaohsiung we visited Rui Feng Night Market and Liuhe Tourist Night Market, with the former being our favorite. All sorts of seafood and variations, cooked on the spot. Fruits and fruit drinks. The ubiquitous pearl milk tea. Stinky tofu. Some.. weird combinations (pearl sandwich, ice cream tea). Continue…

Yes, starting to noticeably gain muscle. Went for my first long ride after surgery. Took the bike on the hills north of Mizil, hitting my favorite climb in the area: Boboci. I actually like that climb so much that Continue…

Hiking Iezer-Papusa

First post-surgery serious hike, hooray! Chose Iezer-Papusa in probably the last decent-weather-and-no-snow weekend of this year. For the complete experience we spent the night at the Iezer Shelter (2150 meters elevation). Started the climb from Voina Chalet (more like Motel) on some nice and warm temperatures. As we picked up altitude and the wind made itself noticed, we ended up wearing most of our clothes. Still, we were enjoying ourselves Continue…

Biking Transylvania’s Trails

TLDR: Yes, go there. Romania doesn’t have a lot of bike trails. If you’re mountain biking, you’ll be using: – Unpaved roads. A lot of them were created to help in logging. How do you feel now, knowing you benefit from the country’s deforestation? They’re wide, boring, oftentimes crazy steep. Good for access to/from the mountain, but sad if they make up most of your trip. – Hiking trails. They Continue…
